The NEC Jazz Orchestra is a group mainly formed of grad students, that performs new and traditional big band repertoire. In recent years, the ensemble has performed under the direction of guest artists Django Bates, Jimmy Heath, Jim McNeely, Maria Schneider and Gunther Schuller. Named Best College Big Band in the 2004 Downbeat Student Music Awards, the ensemble has won critical acclaim for its recordings and for its performances throughout the country.. Chris Juris Quintet

It is an experimental group that plays original member compositions as well as standards. Formed by Chris Juris in Guitar, percussionist Nahum Corona, Torey Striffolino in Acoustic Bass and Christian on Tenor Sax. The Chris Juris Quartet and guest artist plays every Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm, at Wally's Cafe in Boston.

Jazz Band Classic

Jazz Band Classic is a 17-member brass-wind-and-percussion ensemble dedicated to studying, rehearsing, and performing classic big band jazz music. Modeled on the bands of the 1930's and 1940's, Jazz Band Classic preserves this heritage and, keeping with jazz traditions, incorporates it into the current and emerging styles that define the genre for the present generation. Throughout the season, rehearsals are augmented with master class clinics with some of the most eminent of today's jazz professionals. During Christian's tenure, the Jazz Band Classic featured soloists such as Gary Smulyan, Frank Wess, Warren Vaché, Steve Turre and Joe Lovano giving him and the other members a chance to play and perform alongside with some of todays most exciting professional musicians. Youth Orquestra

The Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra is part of the Jazz Standard Discovery Program designed to address the lack
of facilities and opportunities available to young people of school going age to participate in live jazz
performances in the environment in which this great American art form flourishes - a jazz club and to provide
the young musicians with interactive, informal master classes that will educate, entertain and inspire.
The musicians participating will perform, answer questions on their performances, discuss the role their
individual instrument plays in the overall sound of the ensemble and will demonstrate this. The rich historical
development of this music, it's influence on American society and it's ever broadening appeal world-wide will
also be discussed.
